Web-Savvy Marketing: Priority List for Promoting Your Site|
by Nancy J. Wagner

A FREE Submission Site I Highly Recommend
You do NOT need to pay for a submission service to submit your site to the top search engines. Instead, I use this FREE submission site which is updated frequently. It works - need I say more? Click here for more information.

1. Optimize your website with descriptive titles and descriptions. Keywords or metatags are seldom used by the search engines anymore, but those meta titles and meta descriptions sure are. Make sure you ALSO use as many of the keywords and phrases in your meta title and description as you can in your that page's copy, too.

2. Consider pay-per-click campaigns such as those that Yahoo or Google AdWords offer. Done right, these DO bring in qualified leads, especially if you're selling products. If you offer services, though, you'll find it much more difficult to see success with pay-per-click ads.

3. Send your website address to the top 10-15 search engines. You do
NOT need to pay for a submission service. Instead, submit your website for FREE to all the major search engines by using a site such as this one: www.1stsearchranking.com/submission.htm.

4. Find other websites willing to link back to your site. These are also called reciprocal links. The more links coming into your site from quality websites, the higher the search engines will rank you.

5. Add an opt-in email sign-up box.
Not only should you add an opt-in email sign up form to your website, but every time you talk to a new prospect, whether at a networking event or tradeshow, on the phone during a sales call, or via an email exchange, ask for permission to add their email address to your email list. But don’t stop there. Start using that list to send an enewsletter or other direct email to tell your prospects and customers about how your products or services provide a solution to their problem. Click here to get more ideas on how to do this.

6. Review your site's traffic reports. Check with your website host to find out how to access your site's traffic reports. Your traffic reports should show, at a minimum, what search engines readers came from, which pages they visited, and what pages they exited. Why is this important? It's critical, in my opinion, to find out how your promotions are doing (where did people come from) AND to find out on what page they're leaving your site. That may provide a good clue as to why people are leaving rather than buying or calling you as their next action.

This is just a start, and I've got lots of other proven methods on how to promote your site. Things change quickly when it comes to website promotion on the Internet so that's why I keep up with the changes constantly, especially with the search engines. I frequently use my enewsletter to report the information back to you. I also help my clients keep up on all the changes by making recommendations for online promotion strategies.
